Why are you doing this?

Healthcare workers around the world are struggling with a shortage of masks, especially in the very hard hit areas. This is why the campaign was started. We are located in New York, the hardest hit area in the US, so we can see how desperate hospitals are for PPE. We wanted to help, but individually we are a small company and we don’t have the money or resources to help much. But together with more retailers, we can raise enough funds to make a large order of masks.

How did this come about?

It all started with a discussion about the shortage. Cerberus Supplies expressed to us that they couldn't understand why there was such a shortage of masks, because they knew companies who had certified masks available in China. Cerberus then brought up the idea of selling dice, which are popular and have a low cost, to raise funds to be able to meet the minimum order quantities to buy masks ourselves. Cerberus is offering the materials (dice and bags) at cost, and is volunteering their time to bring the bags to life.

It started with just a few retailers, and more and more have joined in. We hit over 1200 bags in the first 24 hours!

Why dice? Why not straight donations?

We would love for people to donate directly to their charity of choice! Let’s face it, though, anyone who wants to donate directly already has. It's common sense that having a product with a donation attached is a way to get more people to donate. People can use the product as an excuse to spend the money, because they get something in return. It’s the extra incentive. We are not taking away from direct donation money. We are bringing in MORE donation money.

Many of us have an option available for a straight donation, without a bag of dice. Any straight donations or extra donations included with the purchase go straight to buying masks.

Why are you buying them? Why can't hospitals buy them?

Hospitals in the hardest hit areas are desperate for masks, reusing them and using the barely-effective cloth masks. We don't know exactly why. All we know is that for some reason they are not getting the PPE they need.

It could be all the bureaucracy and red tape that surrounds hospitals getting the supplies they need standing in the way of getting masks quickly. Many buyers have to compete, to bid against one another, for supplies (and are charged ridiculous prices!). Some areas aren't allocated as much as they need. Sometimes it takes a long time between ordering and receiving. The problems may vary in each country.

We are doing this because we have the opportunity to take out the middleman and get masks directly to where they are needed. So we are stepping forward to make it happen. 

Hospitals having more masks doesn’t seem to have a downside.

Who are the masks going to?

Participating retailers are from all over the world, and we are all pooling our funds to buy a large order of masks and PPE. Each country will be allocated PPE based on the amount of money raised by the retailers located there. From there, they will each determine where the masks will go based on what area is in the most need.
